Nursdoc are always looking for great doctors. If you are a GP Trainee on the General Practice Vocational Training Scheme, either in your last year or you have just qualified, then we would like to hear from you.
The choices when qualifying as a GP are now better than ever. Joining a locum agency like Nursdoc can greatly benefit your career and understanding what positions may be out there for you can be vital.
Our own doctor, Dr Ivan Ratnayake B.Sc, MBBS, FRCS (Eng), DRCOG, MRCGP is on hand to talk with any new doctors joining us and to give you advice for where you may want to take your future. He has given some information that may be helpful:
"I would always recommend to new GP Trainees that they locum initially and would never recommend a salaried position straight after qualifying.
This is because I have seen so many salaried GPs treated very badly, especially with respect to the dumping of workloads onto them by the Practices, and also such things like visits and paperwork.
Instead, I would recommend becoming a Locum GP. Doing locums in a wide variety of Practices, using different systems to gain experience of how other Practices work, how they are run, how the morale varies in each Practice and the broad general experience that a variety of work brings.
In the future, this can help you decide what type of Practice you may want to spend more time at, e.g big, small, suburban, rural, city based etc.
Having said that, there are several GPs I know who locum permanently and thoroughly enjoy the life and lifestyle that this brings.
The advantage of agencies like Nursdoc, is that they can find work for you up and down the country and this can be a good way of travelling, seeing parts of the country that you wouldn't otherwise see and perhaps visiting friends and family too in combination with work.
Nursdoc has also managed to find work for me abroad, on cruise ships and I have even worked on oil rigs in the North Sea - all of which were real adventures, but something I would never have thought of doing, just sitting in a Practice.
In all, I cannot recommend Nursdoc highly enough. I am a Partner in a Practice in Epsom, Surrey where I was once a Trainee. If I wasn't doing this, I would undoubtedly be working with Nursdoc full-time and taking advantage of the opportunities that they have on offer."
