Warning Over Drop In NHS Health Visitors

Health visitors have asked for help from the government when it comes to public health budgets.

They have also warned of a significant reduction in the number of nurses who work with those who are aged 0-5 years old. The latest data shows that the number of health visitors who work for the NHS in England has dropped by a staggering 18% and this is ever since the local council has been responsible for the public health service.

The government will have to deal with the effects of the lowest ratio of health visitors to children. A letter has been sent to the chancellor and this was done ahead of the government publishing their budget. They stated that the visitor warnings were incredibly alarming and they also warned that staffing could be well on its way to an all time low.

The IHV have stated that the role health visitors play in supporting families and the foundation that they lay for their children is helping to reduce the chance of them experiencing mental health issues at a later date. The work of a health visitor usually goes unseen and the government may soon have to deal with this issue before it gets much worse.

At the end of the day, urgent action from the government is required to try and increase the investment for the public. Of course, this is only going to happen if people are aware of what is happening and this is especially important for those who work in nurse jobs. If nothing is done about this at all then NHS health visitors will continue to drop and this is something that needs to be avoided at all cost. Only time will tell if the drop will continue, but either way these issues need to be brought to light.
