Description
Nursdoc are recruiting for 3 support workers for a 6 month contract working on the Island Of Guernsey in The Channel Islands.

The post holder will work with children and families in a variety of settings, supporting vulnerable Young People and ensuring their general wellbeing needs are identified, met and maintained. They will be expected to carry out a wide range of duties as part of a team and independently and will ensure a high level of quality care is delivered for the service users.
Support workers will participate in providing and maintaining a homely environment promoting “Ordinary life Principles” respecting the dignity and rights of the service users accessing the Short Breaks Service.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Work with children and young people in a variety of settings including the Croft, accessing community activities and in the family home.
2. Work directly with the children identifying and reporting any changes in a service user’s condition or health status.
3. Assist service users with all aspects of daily living such as washing, dressing, eating and mobility.
4. Maintain privacy and dignity of service users when assisting with personal care.
5. Contribute to the holistic assessment and support of the service users to ensure their general wellbeing needs are identified, met and maintained.
6. Follow and implement care plans as directed.
7. Communicate effectively with service users and significant others. This could include service users with communication difficulties and challenging behaviours.
8. Follow communication plans and utilise communication tools as directed by the speech and language therapist in order to communicate effectively with the service users.
9. Participate in the administration of medication and recording in accordance with the Service Medication Policy.
10. Establish ongoing communication and partnership approaches between service users and their families, Health and Social Care representatives and any other relevant agencies or individuals to ensure a joined up and effective care experience.
11. Attend meetings about the service users as requested by senior management to represent the short breaks service.
12. Participate in the delivery of high quality evidence based service provision working within the boundaries of The Children’s (Guernsey and Alderney) Law 2008, HSC Policies and Procedures, Children’s Homes Regulations (2011) and National Minimum Standards for Children’s Homes (2011).
13. Work in partnership with children’s families and other professionals to ensure are Plans are formulated and adhered to and that where possible the child’s views are an integral part of the process. This would involve being trained in the Family Partnership Model and implementing it within practice.
14. Help ensure the daily routine of running The Croft is maintained. The post holder will be required to undertake administration and domestic tasks including cooking, cleaning and home maintenance during the course of shifts as directed by the Team Leaders and Senior Support Workers.
15. Ensure all documentation is recorded accurately, concisely and in non-judgemental language, in a timely manner in line with best practice / Policy and Procedures.
16. Work within boundaries relating to protecting and safeguarding Children and Young People and know when and how to refer a concern about Child Protection. Follow HSC policies and procedures regarding Health and Safety, and report dangerous occurrences through the correct systems when necessary.
17. Understand the purpose and participate fully in supervision and appraisals regarding your work and development needs and attend regular staff meetings to keep up to date with current team issues.
18. To attend and fully participate in training as directed by the Manager of the Short Break Service.
19. Work as a flexible member of a team and be committed to promoting anti-discriminatory practices.
20. A supportive attitude towards health and wellbeing, and educational achievement.

KEY CRITERIA:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience at Band 2 or Level 2 VQ Diploma in Health or Social Care or equivalent. FULL QUALIFICATIONS

2. Level 3 VQ Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
