The total representation for the number of black people who work as mental health nurses has increased quite a lot over the years. That being said, they are now in way lower positions, which is not good to say the least. David Harewood has joined Simon Arday, who is a mental health nurse. He has said that there needs to be more support for those who want to try and advance in their positions. At one point, it was only nurses of colour who were given the harder jobs. This could include the jobs that did not require as much compassion and this was traumatic for them to say the least. That is why this webinar aims to discuss all of the inequalities that are happening within the care system while exploring what nurses and mental health staff can do to try and improve the experience of black patients. Of course, if you work in a nurse agency or if you work as part of a nursing recruitment agency then you will know how important it is to ensure that everyone is given a great deal of support regardless of their ethnicity or position. That is why so many people are working hard to ensure that more help is given to those who need it. He also said that he was able to bond with a few nurses and that he was able to empathise with them as well. He said that it was soothing to be able to talk with people of colour and that it was good to have a higher level of enlightenment about the whole thing. It was often nurses of colour who had the harder jobs, and this is not acceptable to say the least. More needs to be done to make sure that this is not the case in the future.
