The NHS England workforce has now launched their strategy to try and stop people from committing suicide in the NHS. The unfortunate reality if you work in a nurse agency or if you work in a nursing recruitment agency is that people are not given the help that they need. This is leading to carers and those who work in care jobs, committing suicide. The toolkit has been created to try and embed good practice across the healthcare service. This is going to pull together resources from well over two dozen support services. It is also going to mean that mental health charities are able to support staff who may have had a colleague die as the result of suicide.

When you look at the resources for organisational leaders, you will see that the toolkit offers guides for managers. It tells them how to respond to people who are showing warning signs and it also helps them to spot people who may be at risk. Dame Ruth May has come out to say that the resources are ideal at helping to mitigate staff as well as helping them to get the support they need across the board. The challenges that the NHS is facing right now are great, and some may even say that they are relentless. That being said, more has to be done to make sure that people are given help if they feel overwhelmed to stop suicides from happening going forward. This is the only way to make sure that people are not feeling like suicide is the only way out for them, and that there is in fact a light at the end of the tunnel.

When you look at recent years, as well as the pandemic, it’s safe to say that there is a huge cost of living detriment. Challenges have to be used so that people can seek out opportunities. That being said, that is very difficult to implement in this current day and age. Now is the time to make a change but it is difficult to do this when we live in a time of adversity. Nursing schools and nursing families are no better example of how things can work across life courses.

Of course, things are changing quite rapidly but at the end of the day, more has to be done to give nurses the support they need. If this doesn’t happen then things could start to regress, which is the last thing people need.

Maternity care standards are now at a high. An NHS nurse agency hospital trust found themselves in the middle of an inquiry when they found out that a number of people had died under their care. The CQC have looked into maternity care at two different hospitals and they have found that the ratings need to be increased quite a lot. For the Nottingham City Hospital, they have found that the design and the environment have failed to meet safety standards and that they need to do a lot of work to reach the staffing levels that would allow them to operate safely. If they don’t then this could have major consequences for the future, so make sure that you keep that in mind.

Clinical support workers have demanded that they get backpay and they also believe that they are not being treated as fairly as they could be. The staff who work at the Wirral University Trust walked out after they finished a 72-hour strike.

This comes right after a revised offer from the trust was made. They received a one-off payment to the staff but the union happened to reject it. The main reason for this is because they felt as though it fell short of the demands for back pay.

The CSW are known as HCAs and this includes everyone, whether they are support workers or even nursing assistants. It was their aim to support patients as much as possible but at the end of the day, this has been very difficult. They felt as though they were not getting the support that they needed, when they needed it. On top of this, they were not getting the back pay that they should have done when completing their duties. This is why so many people have demanded that they start getting fair pay and that they do not end up getting overlooked for the hard work that they are putting in. Only time will tell what the future holds for the strike and there is no guarantee that the money is even going to come through but at the end of the day, if action is not taken now then people are never going to be able to get the help they need when working so many extra hours.
