Student Nurses have Lobbied Westminster to Try and get a £1 Billion Investment
Student nurses are going to descend on Westminster. They are going to try and call for a £1 billion investment to try and get nurses the funding they need. The college believes that this is what’s needed to be done in order to try and halt the decline in student nursing members. They also want to try and begin to address the 42,000 nursing vacancies that happen to be jeopardising patient care in general. If you work as a nurse agency or if you go through a nursing recruitment agency then you will know how dire this situation can be.
Students are going to meet with MPs ahead of the Westminster debate and they are also going to try and discuss the future of nurse funding and education. The debate has been called by Eleanor Smith who has a background in nursing. She is also the MP for the South West area of Wolverhampton. Since the bursary for students was scrapped in the year 2016, various applications to study nursing have fallen by well over 33%. The government have stated that they want to try and drive up the numbers for student nursing but by the looks of things, they are not going to change any time soon. The RCN has produced some cost measures and this includes a maintenance grant that will cover all nursing students. It is also going to provide those who need it the most with the tuition and even the support they need on a day to day basis. This includes bringing back the grant in England and it also involves encouraging students to get a higher level of interest in nursing as well.
Dame Donna has written a message to the Secretary of State for health and social care. She has called on them to try and secure £1 billion of funding.
The RCN Has Slammed the Decision to Double Immigration Health Surcharge
RCN has slammed the decision to try and double the health surcharge for immigration. The RCN is going to carry on trying to campaign for the immigration health surcharge to be waived for nurses who are overseas. Yesterday the government announced that those who are non-EEA nationals would have to pay £400 for each family member. This would be done every year so that they can work in the UK under their visa. The RCN has been working hard to try and campaign to see this fee waived if possible. They are also trying to help staff who work in the UK and the various departments. Dame Donna Kinnair who is the acting chief for RCN has stated that the nurses already contribute a significant amount and that they are also subject to National Insurance and taxation as well. They work hard to try and care for our loved ones and fees like this can really tear families apart. They end up separating mothers from their children and this has to stop.
Those who work as a part of a nurse agency or even those who go through a nursing recruitment agency for their job positions will know more than anyone how daunting changes like this can be. The government has signalled that people like this are no longer welcome.
The assuring members who work in government are going to carry on campaigning. Donna has stated that they are going to try and use the House of Lords to try and send a message to the government. This decision is morally bankrupt and it is also not acceptable in the slightest either, meaning that more needs to be done in order to put an end to things like this happening. Of course, only time will tell if this is the case.
Here’s How You Make Medical Repatriation As Easy as Possible
If you have been in an accident then you will know how stressful this can be. After all, if it happens when you are abroad then you may feel as though you are limited in terms of your options and you may even find that you just don’t know who to call as well. If this is the case then you need to look into medical repatriation. When you do this, you will have those who work in nurse jobs right there to help you.
Arranging Transport
When you have had a medical emergency abroad, you need to contact someone who works in nursing jobs. When you do this, you can then count on them to guide you through the whole process. When you do go through a service such as this, you can then count on them to have your medical notes to and you can also count on them to help you with any questions that you have along the way as well so you won’t have any issues there.
Communication
If you have been in an accident, you may find that language barriers are a problem. If you have booked a medical repatriation service then a lot of this stress and worry won’t even hit you. All you have to do is name a contact that you would like to keep updated during the whole process and you can also count on them to keep the rest of your family informed as well.
Preparing Admission
A lot of people get stressed about the idea of being admitted to hospital and this is understandable but you should note that the medical repatriation service will always help you and they will also guide you through everything you need to know along the way as well.
Here’s What You Do After You Have an Accident Abroad
If you have had an accident abroad then you will know how it can have an impact on your life in general. At times, you may feel as though nothing you do is going to change the situation and at others, you may even feel helpless as well. If you want to find out what you should do if you have ever had an accident abroad then you can find out whatever you need to know, right here.
Seek Medical Attention
The first thing that you should do is always seek medical attention. If you are an EU citizen then you will be able to access state healthcare if you do happen to be travelling within Europe. Of course, if you are not sure how to go about doing this or if you are struggling to find out whether or not you qualify for any reason at all then it is well worth talking to someone who works in nursing jobs, medical repatriation or anyone else of a similar position.
Report the Accident
Any accident should be reported. You should report it to someone who works in nurse jobs and you should also report it to the person who owns the accommodation as well. If you are not able to do this or if you don’t think that this is important then you may find that you really end up paying for it at a later date.
Insurance Arrangements
If you have been in an accident then it is also a good idea for you to look into some kind of insurance arrangement. When you do this, you can feel confident knowing that they can handle your claim and that they can also work with you to make sure that you are happy with your claim as well.
How to Care For Yourself when You Have Been in An Accident
If you have suffered some kind of emergency then you will know how traumatic this can be. It can take a serious toll on your body and your mind. You may even be forced to rest and this can mean that you don’t end up getting out of the house for days or weeks on end. Of course, when you have been in an accident, it is so important that you are able to take care of your mental health and by following the below tips, you can be sure to do that.
Understand your Symptoms
One of the best ways for you to feel better about yourself after you have been in an accident is for you to try and take back control of your life. You need to understand the accident you have been in, how it has had an effect on you and what caused it. You may go through a lot of emotions when you think about it in this way, but this is the best way for you to deal with them effectively.
Get Talking
Believe it or not, talking can be a great way for you to feel better about yourself. You may even want to talk with someone who works in nursing jobs, medical repatriation or anything else similar. It may even help you to talk with someone who works as a counsellor as well, because when you do this, you can then feel confident knowing that whatever happened was not your fault. If you do talk with someone who works in nurse jobs, remember that they are trained, and that if they tell you to rest then this is what you need to do.
Of course, being in an accident can be debilitating, but if you are able to move past it and focus on yourself then this can really help you to feel better.
Friends are Key When it Comes to Helping Those who are Mentally Ill Stop Smoking
Friends who are former smokers themselves are apparently the key to helping those who have a serious mental illness to kick their smoking habit once and for all. They have noted that people who have serious mental illness usually live 25 years less when compared to those who do not suffer from any condition. Smoking is one of the many contributors to this and it is so important that we look into these concerns. If you work in nurse jobs or if you work in the healthcare sector then you will understand this more than anyone.
Those who do work in nursing jobs will know how social interactions and even personal relationships have influenced outcomes for those who have a serious mental illness. They chose to ask 41 people who took part in a smoking cessation treatment to find out who their social contacts were. They also asked them to identify their relationships and even those who they spent the most time with at the weekend as well. They were then asked the group to list five people who have influenced their smoking in the last year and in total, they named friends. When this information was documented, they were then asked to comment on the strength of that relationship and the smoking diagnosis that came with it. A lot of people have hopes that by understanding the conditions and the relationship that they have with smoking, more can then be done to try and give people the help and support they need and this is especially the case for those who suffer from a serious mental condition. This is a serious problem but by the looks of things, more is being done to try and put an end to premature deaths.
The Queen’s Nurse Has Broken New Ground for the LGBT Community with Dementia
A Queen’s Nurse who comes from Cornwall is trying to revolutionise the amount of care that is given to those who are gay, bisexual, transgender or lesbian. People who are part of this community often struggle to get reliable care when they have dementia and now the nurse is having her own work featured in a very highly anticipated documentary. Allison O’Kelly is going to have a fully-fledged production crew following her on her trip to Australia. She has very high hopes and she wants to learn how the condition is going to affect huge groups of people. She is also going to find out the best practices so that she can bring them back to the UK. This is fantastic news to say the least and she is working hard to make all of this happen.
O’Kelly is a clinical lead and she also works in memory services. She developed an interest in the subject when she worked with a transgender woman. She became very distressed about her own identity and this started to happen when she developed Alzheimer’s disease. O’Kelly has worked in nurse jobs for quite some time now and she wants it to be possible for every single person who works in nursing jobs to be aware of the work she is doing. She is also under the impression that the understanding in the UK is somewhat limited and for this reason she decided to get funding so that she could lead the way in Australia. She was also selected out of 1000 people so that she could receive a fellowship award from the Winston Memorial Trust. This is designed to help people to go overseas to find solutions to the problems in the home country.
Patients Do Need Protecting if a No-Deal Brexit Were to Happen
The government have released some advice regarding a no-deal Brexit and they have done this for a variety of industries. Matt Hancock has released a letter on the movement and he has also stated that so many EU citizens have made contributions to the UK and they have also made it everything that it is right now. They have not however given any guarantees to the rights that EU workers have. The NHS workforce numbers were also released today and they have also revealed that the nurse numbers have plummeted even more. The RCN have also warned that patient care needs to be a priority regardless of the outcome of Brexit. Losing EU colleagues would put even more stress on the NHS and even health services as well. This is going to carry on happening and the main reason for this is because the UK is not training enough healthcare professionals. They are still recruiting from Europe and with Brexit moving as it is, this is not a good sign if you work in nurse jobs.
Donna Kinnair is the acting secretary for the RCN and they have also stated that EU nurses are going to be left worried and that they are also going to be very uncertain about the future that they have as well. They are going to fail to guarantee any settled status and this is especially the case if the EU happens to crash. They are now calling on the Home Office to try and affirm the commitment that has been made by Dominic Raab and he is the Secretary of State for the Exit European Union. It is said that the UK will not be affected by a no-deal Brexit but there has not been much else said about this. This is especially the case when you look at nursing jobs.
Hydration for Patients and Staff is Crucial as People are Passing Out due to Overheated Hospitals
Nursing staff have stated that some hospitals really are getting so hot that the patients and even the relatives are passing out because of the heat. Some are not even able to stay hydrated even if they wanted to and this is because there are simply not enough staff for them to take a break. Those who work in nurse jobs or doctor jobs will understand this more than anyone. The law states that patients, staff and even those who work in nursing jobs need to have access to water at all times. The heatwave has seen temperatures rise to well over 30 degrees and the RCN have even come out to say that dehydration in overheated hospitals is often a health risk. It can even lead to a huge range of serious health conditions and this includes urinary tract infections, kidney injuries and more.
Anna Crossley who is an RCN Professional has come out to say that nursing staff should not be expected to work 12 or even more hour shifts in this heat with absolutely no access to water. She has come out to say that not only is this uncomfortable, but it is also dangerous for them and the patients who they work so hard to care for. Dehydration can seriously affect your cognition and this can lead to mistakes being made. For this reason, water bottles should be made so that staff can carry them with them as they work their shift. It also means that they can have a break when transitioning between patients. A lot of hospitals are not even fitted with air conditioning and this can cause real problems for everyone who is in the room at the time.
An NHS Cancer Nurse has Funded her Own Treatment
Laura Harris is a qualified oncology nurse. She has over 12 years of experience and she is now feeling much better after the treatment. Her story is as follows. She was forced to try and raise the money for her own cancer treatment and she has also come out to say that the treatment has extended her life. She has spent her career working in the oncology sector and she was told about a drug that could prolong her life. The problem is that this drug is not available on the NHS. She was given three months to live when she was diagnosed but within days of her launching her campaign, she had enough for four blocks of treatment. She is from Devon and she has come out to say that the drug has in fact shrunk her tumours. It has also given her more time to spend with her husband and her three children. She came from America well over 20 years ago and then she chose to train as a nurse. She was then diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer but still returned to her job as a carer for other cancer patients. The NICE is a public body and they are the ones who authorise spending for the NHS. They have stated that the expensive new treatment does not justify the cost. Ms. Harris however has been able to raise enough money and each block of treatment comes to £21,000. To start with she only wanted to raise enough for two blocks but she has doubled her goal and this alone makes her feel as though she is vastly appreciated both as a person and professionally.
Those who work in nurse jobs, nursing jobs or doctor jobs will know how devastating cancer can be, but it’s good to see such progress being made.
