There are Now New Resources Available for Nursing Staff who are working in Sexual Health
The RCN has teamed up with Health Education England to try and create a sexual health education direction. The resource is going to include firms and even case studies too. They have all been developed to try and give staff members the support that they need, and they are also trying to avoid taking on too many nurses at the same time. RCN professionals in the public health industry have now asked the government to try and invest in more local authorities. They are also going to try and budget for the sake of the patients too, but any of their investments have yet to materialise. A lot of people feel as though they need to try and step into the void and that they also need to provide more resources to help with some of the more practical steps involved. This will help them to move forward and it will also help to attract way more nurses into this very rewarding job.
There are a lot of different pressures on services right now and a lot of them are facing huge budget cuts. This is leaving a lot of people and even nurses feeling very unsupported. Complex and fragmentated contracts have made things much more difficult in the ever-developing workplace. A lot of experienced and even inexperienced nursing professionals are now retiring and as it stands, there are not enough nurses to take their place. This is shocking to say the least and more needs to be done to make sure that this does not happen again. Nursing Degree Application Numbers are Still at Crisis Point
If you work in a nurse agency or even as part of a nursing recruitment agency, then you will know more than anyone how frustrating it can be when things take a turn for the worst in the industry. Right now, UCAS figures are showing that nursing applications in England are now way lower when compared to three years ago. Funding reforms are now failing to deliver, and this is shocking to say the least. Figures have been released by the Universities and even Colleges Admission Service and they have shown that nursing applications in England have fallen by over 29%. This happened in the year 2016 and this is a small increase when compared.
These numbers do suggest that the decision to remove this kind of funding has failed in its aim to try and attract more people to the industry. It leaves the health and care system desperately short and it also stops them from getting the support that they need in the future.
RCN Dame Donna Kinnair has stated that she needs to see a much bigger increase if they want to have the number of nurses they’re looking for. They want to try and sustain health and even care services, not to mention that they also want to give them the care that they deserve. They need to see a sustained level of improvement if they want to grow the supply of the future nurses and they also need to work on the delivery of a long-term plan too. They believe that they cannot do this without some kind of urgent action.
This needs to be changed and if people are not careful then they may find themselves in an even worse situation as a result. Who knows what’s going to happen next.
MPs have Expressed their Support for Staffing Legislations in England
Politicians have backed RCN the calls for the Health Secretary. They have all kinds of legal accountability for the nursing work force and they are also trying very hard to supply and even plan the parliamentary debate. MPs have debated the legal duties of the Secretary of State and they have also tried to help out with social care too. They are doing this for England’s workforce. The RCN’s outgoing staffing shortage are trying to call for a legislation that would make them accountable for all staffing levels in England. This would happen to follow the introduction of a similar legislation in England.
MPs in Westminster Hall have shared stories from the various constituents, and they have also talked about their own experience too. They have a lot of history working in the NHS and they also have a high level of adequate workforce planning. They are trying to do everything they can for the future, and they are also trying to make sure that they guarantee safety for the patients that they work with. Eleanor Smith, who is one of the MPs has led the debate and she has stated that right now, the vacancy rate has happened to reach a very alarming rate. Frontline staff are now working hard and propping the system up with absolutely no assurance that the situation in general is going to be resolved. Staff are starting to vote with their feet but there is no accountability at all. The crisis has come about because there is absolutely no way that there are enough staff who have the right skills. Even if they do, they do not have them in the right place or at the right time. The RCN has Urged the New Prime Minister to Try and End the Workforce Crisis
The RCN chief executive Dame Donna Kinnair has chosen to write a letter to Boris Johnson. This comes from his appointment as Prime Minister. She has asked him to try and take urgent action regarding the current nursing crisis. This includes acting for the RCN. They want him to make a new law that states that the health and social care would be accountable when considering the NHS staffing levels. This would also introduce a very similar measure in Scotland and even Wales too. It’s all part of the ongoing campaign for the staffing for safe and even effective healthcare. They would be enshrined in law across the UK and this would be a positive movement to say the least. The letter even calls for investment in nursing and higher education too. They are going to try and continue professional development and they would even outline how any future immigration systems would then give people the right skills that they need to progress.
Dame Donna Kinnair has stated that never in recent history has the UK faced these kind of challenges, and that a lot of these do stem from the fact that we are leaving the EU. Dame Donna Kinnair has stated that a prime minister has entered the office with a lot of pressure. A growing number of jobs are now unfulfilled, and this is especially the case if you work in a nursing agency or even in a nursing recruitment agency. The growing number of empty jobs has left a huge gap in health and social care, not to mention that rural areas are also going to be under much more pressure. Only time will tell if this is going to become a major issue.
Nursing Bodies are Calling for a Commitment to Investment
A new report has been issued by the RCN. There are only 4,000 district nurses who are working in the area and it is their job to try and provide care to around 55.8 million people. The long-term plan for the NHS has been published and they have set out a couple of aims to try and provide more nursing care in the community. They are also trying to give more people support in their homes too. The joint report has stated that they require urgent investment and they also need to be giving a higher level of training too. They have a vision to try and meet the reality and even the challenges that are being caused by the falling numbers of staff in the industry right now.
The report has also warned that district nurses are now working to the highest level of capacity and that they are not able to provide the high quality of care that is required. Nurses are working to capacity and they are also trying hard to deal with the older workforce too. There aren’t enough people to replace the nurses who are retiring. District nurses are able to provide those who need care, with it. They are also able to give them hospital support too. District nurses really are a lifeline for patients and a lot of them are not able to leave the house. The RCN Have Responded to a Publication for the Interim Workforce in England
The Interim NHS People Plan have now launched. It is their job to try and launch a brand-new initiative that will help them to tackle the current shortage of healthcare staff who work in England. They are trying to focus on recruiting more nurses and they are also trying to make sure that the NHS is a good place to work. They are trying to pledge 5,700 placements for nursing students and they are also trying to give universities the chance to increase their enrolment numbers. The interim plan however does not outline any costs as to how this is going to be delivered. They have stated that this is going to come when the full plan is released.

The full plan is going to outline all of the education and even the training that is required for the NHS workforce. The RCN want the government to try and invest at least one billion every single year.
Patricia Marquis has stated that the document is going to start tackling the major issues that are happening in the industry and they are also going to reserve judgement. The NHS and even the people who use it really do deserve a detailed solution and they also need to be given some help with the crisis that is happening right now. They need more support with the legal framework that is present, and they also need to work hard to try and fill up more of the jobs that are open right now. If more isn’t done, then this could cause major problems.
The RCN has Joined Other Unions to try and Stop Violence against Nursing Staff
The RCN has stated that violence against staff who work in prison should be seen as being unacceptable in every instance. Those who have experience in a nursing recruitment agency will know how much staff face in situations like this.
The comments were made in response to brand new research that has repeatedly shown that more than a quarter of staff who have worked in a prison have actually been the victim of violence. Brian Morton is the RCN National Officer and he has come out and stated that assaults are now much more of a routine experience and that a lot of people who work in prisons are having to face situations like this every single year. Poor reporting mechanisms can be to blame because people are not investigating the cases properly and this can lead to hopelessness and even helplessness too. The research also reviewed the impact and even the exposure of substances. This includes spice. Over half of staff have stated that they have been exposed in the past and a third of them have stated that they have become ill as a result. Brian has added that drug use right now is poisoning the atmosphere and that some staff are even being forced to carry out some of their duties under the effect. This is a new low and it just goes to show how hard nurses in a nurse jobs work and the awful conditions that they are having to operate under. This is not right to say the least, and more needs to be done about this. If nothing is done then staff will start to leave the sector and with staff being under so much pressure right now, it’s safe to say that this is not good enough.
A New UK-Wide Update is Going to Demonstrate the Need for Long-Term Workforce Preparation
Governments all across the UK need to be held accountable for the nursing workforce. This includes any shortages that they might be facing. If you work in a nurse agency or even in a nursing recruitment agency then you will know what a major movement this could be. The new staffing report is going to call on governments so that they can then implement a robust and even evidence-based workforce plan. They are also going to be using public funded settings.
When you look at the report, you will see that it points to evidence form the World Bank and this shows that investing in the workforce will protect the wider public health. It is also going to support economic growth too. More than a third of UK nurses are due to retire in the next decade but the issue is that there is not anywhere near enough nurses coming through to replace them. The workforce is going to plummet and the NHS is going to struggle as a result. The RCN have stated that the changes are not going to be delivered without an increased amount of recruits and that the policies are not going to be there to support it either. They are not going to be educated and they are not going to be able to retain the existing staff that they have right now either.
Dame Donna has come out to say that the RCN is not going to wait anymore and that they are tired of waiting for the government to act. They are now rallying the public calls and they are also going to try and make people legally accountable for trying to develop the nursing workforce. This is a great movement to say the least, and it could mean great things for the industry.
Nurses are Crucial when it Comes to Helping those who have a Serious Mental Illness
When you look at the World Health Organisation, you will soon see that those who have a serious mental illness die on average 20 years younger than anyone else. Clinician have agreed time and time again that the main reason why this happens is because the illnesses often go on undetected and they then become bigger and more severe. The RCN has called for more work to be done here and they are also trying to close this mortality gap too. The RCN program is now trying to give more help to those who really need it and they are also trying to make sure that they have a much bigger commitment to quality too. The issue here is that the nursing staff who are working hard need to understand that there needs to be a much greater focus and that equality is more crucial than ever. Employees and even policymakers have not done enough to try and deliver this, but either way, it’s shocking.
The NHS still have not gotten to the point where people who are suffering from mental health issues are getting the same level of care. The report is going to carry on highlighting mental health issues and if you work in a nurse agency or even in a nursing recruitment agency then you will know this more than anyone. The report is going to carry on providing practical solutions, but it is safe to say that more work needs to be done in order to make sure that everything goes to plan. A new report has been released by the RCN and the QNI. They have stated that the number of district nurses who are working in the NHS has dropped by over 43%. If you work in a nurse agency, then you will know that there are now only 4,000 district nurses caring for over 5.8 million people.
The long-term plan for the NHS was published earlier on this year. They have set out the aim to try and have more nurses and they are also going to try and serve people’s homes. They have even identified the services that are going to be crucial in meeting these goals. The joint report has urged a lot of people to undergo investment training to make this vision a much more viable reality.

The profession has faced somewhat serious recruitment difficulties in the past because the workforce consists of the older generation. The issue here is that there are now not enough nurses to go on to replace them and this could cause major issues in the future. District nurses are known for having a fundamental role when it comes to the care that is provided closer to home and if more isn’t done about this soon then it looks like even more problems could be faced in the future. That being said, only time will tell if the changes that are being made now will have an impact on the future.
