Children and Family Community services is looking for an experienced social worker to fill an exclusive opportunity specialising in the auditing of social work services to children across the States of Guernsey and Alderney.

In this post you will have a key role within the Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Unit, completing audits of case files, assuring the quality of services, with the aim of significantly improving outcomes for children and young people.

You will undertake audits using tools developed to assess each area of work to understand the effectiveness of children services to safeguarding and meeting the needs of children and young people.

You will additionally carry out moderations of audits completed to support consistency in practice across Children and Family Community services.

As post holder you will ensure the robust triangulation of audit findings together with obtaining, collating and reporting feedback from children and families and multi-agency partners.

You will be required to produce reports of your findings and have difficult conversations, delivering honest, objective, and evidenced based evaluations of service provision by confidently and respectfully challenging practitioners, managers, and senior leaders.

Your aim will be to give an accurate account of performance and service delivery with the overall goal of continual service improvement to deliver the best outcomes to children and families.

· Take on a case auditor role supporting with the service monthly
collaborative audit and moderation programme as needed, performing deep dive and thematic audits as requested by the Senior Leadership Team.
· Advise and support colleagues at all levels on how to undertake audits and other QA activities to a high standard and on a regular basis.
· Support the Service Manager for Safeguarding & QA in ensuring learning from audit and QA activities are used to inform development and changes in policy and procedures.
· Participate in the overall development of operational staff within Children and Family Community Services as directed by the Service Manager, Safeguarding and Quality Assurance and other members of the Senior Leadership team.
· Work in a collaborative manner with our multi-agency partners and the Islands safeguarding children’s partnership to support QA activities that provide a broad insight into how well we work together in supporting and keeping children safe in the Bailiwick.
· Collate information around audit findings and statistical data across the service and prepare reports of findings to the Senior Leadership Team.
· Report monthly to the Children and Family Community Services Central Governance Forum on practice and quality assurance issues as required.
· Attend and contribute to weekly Quality Assurance Governance meetings.
· Promote staff awareness of agreed professional standards and protocols of practice.
· Maintain specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices
· Support key staff in implementing and managing change or new initiatives.

· Be conversant with, and adhere to the Social Work England Code of Practice and local policies including the States of Guernsey Competency Framework
· Maintain current skills and knowledge by attending required training updates in accordance with SW England, Health and Social Care and Children and Family Community Services operational policies and guidance.
· Other activities commensurate with this Job Description may from time to time be undertaken by the post holder.


1. Professional qualification in Social Work
2. Registered with Social Work England with considerable post qualification experience.
3. Experience working at a minimum of Senior Social Work Practitioner level and supporting and influencing strategic decision making.
4. Specialist knowledge of safeguarding children acquired through training and experience.
5. Proven experience to transfer knowledge and skills to colleagues through coaching mentoring and co-working with students, NQSW and junior social work colleagues
6. Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, to a range of audiences including children, young people, parents/ carers and professional colleagues at an advanced level.
7. Experience in developing and maintaining expertise of the established and emergent research and practice relating to the service area, and be able to evidence involvement in activities leading to practice development across the organisation.
8. Be enthusiastic and motivated and able to motivate others
9. Ability to plan and prioritise workload within a flexible work environment with a high level of autonomy, modelling workload management skills to others.
0. Excellent analytical skills and ability to make complex information accessible to others for the purposes of producing reports, training and development.
